Central Connecticut sophomore Leanne Crockett earned her second Choice Hotels/Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week accolade of the season after leading the Blue Devils to three league wins. Crockett shot 64 percent from the field, including 62.5 percent from three-point range, to post 15.0 points per game.. The Manchester, CT product also averaged 7.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists.
Crockett, who is shooting 64 percent from three-point range during CCSU's current five-game winning streak, opened the week with a 13-point effort in Central Connecticut's 51-49 win at Monmouth. She followed up that performance with a career-best 23 points in a 71-57 home victory versus Fairleigh Dickinson. Crockett made 8-of-10 shots, including 5-of-7 threes, against the Knights. Both totals were career highs. She concluded the week with nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds in a 20-point home victory over Wagner. The Blue Devils won 81-61, marking the third time this season CCSU eclipsed the 80-point mark.
Led by Crockett's 11-of-17 performance from the floor, CCSU hit 56-of-107 (52.3 percent) shots over its two home games. Crockett also made 7-of-10 three-pointers to spark a 16-of-28 (57.1 percent) effort by the team.
On the season, Crockett has made 29-of-62 (46.8 percent) three-pointers. She has connected on two or more threes in nine games this year, including each of the last five. The 5-11 forward also leads the Blue Devils in rebounding, pulling down 8.1 boards per game.
Crockett, who also claimed the weekly honor on Dec. 16, shared this week's award with Sacred Heart freshman Callan Taylor.
Heading into its trip to Western Pennsylvania, Central Connecticut is 10-5 overall and 5-0 in Northeast Conference play. The Blue Devils will face St. Francis (PA) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17, before heading to Robert Morris for a 7 p.m. contest on Monday, Jan. 19. CCSU has not posted six wins in NEC action since the 2004-05 season. They have not won six straight since the 1997-98 campaign.
