The Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell on the road Thursday 56-43 at Monmouth. The Blue Devils fall to 0-1 in Northeast Conference action and 5-2 overall on the season. The Hawks improve to 6-2 and 1-0 in the conference with the win. Sophomore Jameilia Dillon led the Blue Devils with 10 points.
The Blue Devils and Hawks traded leads in the first period with Monmouth finishing the half ahead 25-21. Dillon dominated the paint in the opening period dropping in 10 points, while blocking a pair of shots. Sophomore Brooke Bailey grabbed 7 rebounds and had a pair of assists.
The Blue Devils began the second half trailing by four points, but after cutting the lead to three the Hawks began to pull away. Monmouth stretched its lead to 16 points with 7:22 remaining in the game, but Central never quit and chipped away to pull within 12 at the three minute mark. The Hawks responded increasing their lead to 56-39 before senior Leanne Crockett and freshman Lauren Arbogast each picked up a late layup to make the final score 56-43.
Crockett finished tied for a game with 11 rebounds Dillon's 10 points lead the Blue Devils. Crockett blocked three shots and junior Alexzandria Dowdy made three steals to help Central's defense. Dillon scored 10 of the Blue Devils 21 first half points.
The Blue Devils will return to action on December 19, when they host New Hampshire at Detrick Gym.
