The Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell to Samford 76-57 on Wednesday evening, the game was the opening contest of the St. Peter's Holiday Classic. The loss drops the Blue Devils to 6-4 on the season, the Bulldogs improve to 8-3 with the victory. The Blue Devils were led by 17 points from senior Justina Udenze.
The Blue Devils and Bulldogs played close in the first-half. The two teams were tied at 19 with 8:42 left in the period. Then the Bulldogs began to pull away, finishing the half ahead 40-24. Senior Kerrianne Dugan led the Blue Devils with eight points in the period.
The Bulldogs kept the pressure on in the second-half leading by as many as 26 points. Udenze scored 14 of her 17 points in the second period as the Blue Devils tried to mount a come-back. Classmate Leanne Crockett scored seven of her ten points in the second period. Udenze and Crockett each had a team-high five rebounds.
Freshman Jessica Babe played a season high 24 minutes and contributed eight points and four assists, with six of her points coming after the break.
The Blue Devils return to action on Friday afternoon at 12 p.m., that game will be against St. Peter's and will wrap up the Holiday Classic.
