The Central Connecticut women's basketball team officially opened practice for the 2011-12 season earlier this month in New Britain.
The Blue Devils, under fifth-year head coach Beryl Piper, open the season at home once again, hosting Maine on Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. in Detrick Gymnasium.
Central finished the 2010-11 season 19-11 overall and 11-7 in Northeast Conference play. They lost in the semifinal round of the NEC Tournament to eventual champion St. Francis (PA), 68-62. They defeated Sacred Heart 54-49 in the first round of the tournament, reaching the semifinals for the third-straight season.
The Blue Devils lost their top-five scorers from a year ago. The team's leading returning scorer is sophomore Jessica Babe who averaged 4.7 points per game in 21.0 minutes of play per contest. She dished out 50 assists, the third-highest total on the squad.
Central will look to transfer Jaclyn Babe, a junior and the older sister of Jessica, to contribute after sitting out last season due to NCAA transfer rules. She played for two seasons at Duquesne prior to coming to New Britain.
