Women's Hoops Falls to #15/21 Texas
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell to #15/21 Texas on Saturday night at the Frank Erwin Center on the campus of the University of Texas. The Blue Devils fall to 2-2 with the loss and the Longhorns are now 4-0 on the season. The Longhorns won 94-58 behind 22 points Chassidy Fussell, the games leading scorer.
Texas controlled the game early with an opening 13-0 run. CCSU's first points came from sophomore Johnna Fisher who hit a jumper at the 16:20 mark. Sophomore Kaley Watras added a jumper two minutes later to cut the deficit to 13-4.
The half ended with Texas leading 51-25, Fisher led CCSU in the half with eight points and five rebounds.
The Blue Devils opened the second half with a 9-4 run, but Texas hit another basket just before the first media timeout to put Texas up 23 with 15:14 left in the game.
Central played much better in the second half scoring 33 points after the break, but the nationally ranked Longhorns were still able to stretch their lead with 43 points of their own.
The Blue Devils were led by 15 points from senior Jaclyn Babe. Babe scored 11 of her 15 in the second half. Junior Jessica Babe scored 10 points, with eight coming in the second half. Junior Lauren Arbogast also reached double-digits with 10 points.
Fisher led the team with eight points and five rebounds in the first half, but was limited to just one rebound in the second half.
The Blue Devils continued to produce steals and turnovers, forcing Texas to turn the ball over 21 times. CCSU had 13 steals in the game.
The Blue Devils next play on Wednesday at Holy Cross.
