The Central Connecticut women's basketball team defeated Vermont by a score of 67-41 on Wednesday night. The Blue Devils (3-3) scored 46 points in the first half to take a 19 point lead into halftime. Senior Jaclyn Babe led the way for Central with 15 points and seven steals.
The Blue Devil offense of the first half was sparked by 26 points in the paint, most of those points came on fast-breaks with CCSU scoring 14 points on the break. Central also scored 22 points off of Vermont's 17 first half turnovers.
Jaclyn Babe led the Blue Devils in the first half with 11 of her 15 points. As a team Central shot 16-of-30 (53.3%) from the floor in the period. The Blue Devils also continued their great free throw shooting with a 14-for-17 performance from the line.
The Blue Devil offense really turned on midway through the period as the team turned an eight-point lead at the 9:37 mark into a 22-point lead with 2:23 left in the period.
In the second half, both teams struggled from the floor, but the Blue Devils held their advantage and outscored the Catamounts (3-7) 21-14 in the period.
The Blue Devils were able to build a 32-point lead with 5:47 left in the game. It was Central's biggest lead of the game and the team's largest of the season.
Arbogast and Jessica Babe both scored five points in the second-half to pace the squad.
Redshirt freshman Amanda Harrington recorded nine rebounds in the game. Jessica Babe contributed eight rebounds and four assists and Arbogast chipped in five boards.
Jaclyn Babe led all scorers with 15 points. She was joined in double-digits by Jessica Babe (13) and Arbogast (11). The double-digit points for Arbogast mark the thrid straight game she has reached double figures.
Jaclyn Babe led a defense that posted 16 steals in the game. Babe had seven, matching her career-high.
Central finished the game with a 32-12 advantage on points in the paint and a 32-7 advantage on points off turnovers.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Sunday at New Hampshire. The game will tip-off at 2 p.m.
