WBB Falls Just Short at Mount

WBB Falls Just Short at Mount

Despite scoring the final 16 points of the game, the Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell to Mount St. Mary's by a score of 50-48 on Saturday afternoon.  Junior Lauren Arbogast led the team with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

The Blue Devil (11-12, 5-7 NEC) offense started slowly in both halves with Mount (11-13, 7-6 NEC) opening the game with a 10-2 run.  In the second half, the Mountaineers opened with a 6-2 run before head coach Beryl Piper called a time out to stop the momentum.

Unfortunately, Mount was able to put together another run and with 7:26 left in the game the Mountaineers held a 50-32 advantage, but that was the end of the Mount's scoring.

The CCSU defense clamped down and held the Mountaineers scoreless over the final 7:26 of the game.  However, Central was not able to overtake the Mountaineers in the final minutes, despite a 16-0 run to close the game.

The Blue Devils had a chance to tie the game, but junior Jessica Babe's last second jumper bounced off the rim at the buzzer.

Arbogast scored six of CCSU's final 16 points with senior Jaclyn Babe, freshman TeJahne Malone and Jessica Babe also contributing to the scoring.

Jessica Babe had a strong statistical game with 10 points, six rebounds and three assists.

Arbogast finished with her second career double-double.  Her 18 points came on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor and 4-of-4 from the free throw line.

As a team, Central shot just 53.3% (8-15) from the line.  The Blue Devils were also 0-4 from behind the three-point arc.

The loss is the Blue Devils fifth in a row and CCSU is now 0-6 in NEC road games this season.

The Blue Devils return to action on Monday afternoon at Wagner.  The game is scheduled to tip-off at 1 p.m.
