Babe Earns All-NEC First Team
Central Connecticut women's basketball senior Jaclyn Babe was named First Team All-Northeast Conference on Thursday morning. This is the second straight season that Babe has earned postseason honors from the NEC. Last season she was selected to the All-NEC second team.
Babe was stellar this season for the Blue Devils (16-13, 10-8 NEC) as she scored 447 points and averaged 16.0 points/game. Both marks improved upon the excellent numbers that earned her a second-team selection last year. Her 447 points are one more than she scored last season and Babe now holds the sixth and seventh highest single-season point totals in program history.
In addition to being a scoring threat for the Blue Devils, Babe also played terrific defense during the regular season. She posted an impressive 73 steals, which ties for the 10th best season total in program history. Babe also contributed 80 assists and a solid 4.0 rebounds per game.
Babe led the Blue Devils in minutes played with 964, despite missing a game to injury, and averaged a team-high 34.4 minutes per contest.
Babe also posted excellent shooting percentages during her final season. She connected on 42.9% of her shots from the field and an excellent 82.1% from the free throw line.
In just two seasons, Babe has scored 893 points for the Blue Devils. Along with her 191 points during two seasons at Duquesne, she has totaled 1,084 points as a Division I college basketball player.
Among her NEC peers, Babe ranked fourth in points/game (16.0), fifth in free throw percentage (82.1%), fifth in steals/game (2.61), sixth in minutes/game (34.4), 13th in field goal percentage (42.9%) and 13th in assists/game (2.86).
Last season, Babe became the fifth women's basketball player in CCSU history to earn a place on the All-NEC first or second teams. This year she becomes the fourth Blue Devil to earn first team honors from the conference and she joins Gabriella Guegbelet as the only players in program history to earn multiple first or second team All-NEC nods.
Babe and the Blue Devils enter the NEC Tournament as the #5 seed and will play at #4 Saint Francis U on Sunday, March 10, at 3 p.m. The game is available to watch live, free of charge, on NECFrontRow.com.
