The Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell to the University of South Florida on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Devils fall to 0-2 with the loss, while the Bulls improve to 1-1 on the season with the 81-47 victory. CCSU will host Rhode Island on Wednesday night in the first home game of the season. Tip-off is schedule for 7 p.m. at Detrick Gym.
The Blue Devils grabbed the first lead of the game on a layup by senior Jaleen Thomas and matched baskets with the Bulls over the first 10 minutes of play. Senior Lauren Arbogast connected on a layup and free throw to tie the game at 11-11 and two minutes later her jump shot gave CCSU a 13-11 lead. However, that was CCSU's final lead of the game as USF scored seven straight points to go ahead 18-13.
The Bulls, who are receiving votes in the national polls, used a 25-12 run to close the first half. The late burst gave USF a 36-25 halftime lead. USF carried the momentum through halftime and opened the second period with a 30-10 run, which put the game out of reach.
Woloisk scored her first collegiate points on a pair of free throws in the first half. Classmate Aleah Epps also recorded her first collegiate points in the game. She connected on a jump shot with 7:06 left in the second half. Epps finished the game with four points.
Harrington led CCSU in rebounds with eight. Sophomore Kayla Miller was second on the team with five boards. She also blocked a pair of shots in the game.
The Blue Devils were unable to convert on three-point attempts (2-of-19), while the Bulls hit 39.1% (9-of-23) from beyond the arc.
The Blue Devils will hold their 2013-14 home opener on Wednesday night as the host Rhode Island at Detrick Gym.
