Women's Basketball Falls to St. Francis Brooklyn

The Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell to St. Francis Brooklyn by a score of 71-50 on Saturday afternoon at the Pope Physical Education Center.  The Blue Devils (9-10, 3-6 NEC) were unable to match the shooting of the Terriers (14-6, 5-4 NEC) who connected on 51.1% from the field in the game.

The Blue Devils were led by 13 points from senior Lauren Arbogast.  The Terriers had three players score in double-digits, led by Sarah Benedetti's 17 points.

St. Francis connected on 10-of-23 shots in the first half, including four-of-eight from behind the three-point arc, to take a 31-25 halftime lead.

The Blue Devils had four players score in the first half with senior Jessica Babe and Arbogast leading the group with eight points.  Junior Kaley Watras scored five points and sophomore Kayla Miller came off he bench to score four.

In the second half St. Francis opened up a 32-point lead behind a 58.3% shooting performance from the floor.  The Terriers also connected on five-of-nine three-point attempts in the half.

The Terriers connected on 51.1% (24-47) from the field, 52.9% (9-17) from three and 77.8% (14-18) at the free throw line.  CCSU managed just 36.4% (20-55) and 53.3% (8-15) at the free throw line.  The Blue Devils only attempted four three-pointers in the game with a pair of makes.

Babe had two assists to break a tie with Sethe Thompson for fourth on the CCSU career list.  Babe now has 345 in her career.

Freshman Chayla Lewis had six points and three rebounds in eight minutes off the bench in the second half.

The Blue Devils return to action on Monday night at Mount St. Mary's.  The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off and will be broadcast live on ESPN3.com.
