Blue Devils Sink Catamounts in Overtime

The Central Connecticut women's basketball team earned a 77-75 overtime victory against Vermont on Tuesday afternoon at Detrick Gymnasium.  The Blue Devils (3-2) earned the victory as senior Amanda Harrington sank the game-winning basket with just one second remaining.  The Catamounts (0-4) had time left on the clock after Harrington's basket, but were unable to get a shot off before the buzzer.

The Blue Devils led for most of the game after jumping out to leads of 8-0 and 14-1 to open the contest.  CCSU led 31-27 at halftime and then expanded the lead to 10 points just over 10 minutes into the second half.

The Catamounts finally tied the game at 52-52 with 4:10 left to play.  Vermont's first lead came with 2:39 left, as the Catamounts took a 55-54 on a free throw.  The game would remain tight until Vermont tied it at 60-60 with 47 seconds remaining.

CCSU again jumped out to a lead in overtime, but the Catamounts chipped away and tied the game at 75-75 with 10 seconds left.  The Blue Devils choose not to call a timeout after the basket with senior Kaley Watras taking the inbounds pass and dribbling the floor before passing to Harrington for a layup.  Harrington missed her first attempt, but grabbed the rebound and put in the follow up for the win.

Redshirt freshman Lauren Wolosik finished with a team-high 17 points.  It is also a new career-high for Wolosik.

Junior Nicole Ferguson (14 points), sophomore Aleah Epps (13 points) and Watras (10 points) all scored in double figures.

Harrington posted just five points, but grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and also had four blocks.  Offensively, she also dished out four assists.

The Blue Devils dominated off the bench outscoring the Catamounts 31-14.  CCSU also led on second chance points 19-10.

The Blue Devils shot 39.7% from the floor and 46.2% from beyond the arc in the game.  Vermont shot 35.9% and 35.7% from the field and from three.

The Blue Devils will return to action on Sunday, Nov. 30 at New Hampshire.
