Women's Hoop Drops Road Game at URI

The Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell to the University of Rhode Island by a score of 58-46 on Saturday afternoon in Kingston, RI.  The Blue Devils (4-4) outscored the Rams (5-3) 31-22 in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome a 21-point halftime deficit.

CCSU was led by junior Kayla Miller's second double-double of the season.  The New York native grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds and also dropped in 12 points.  Miller posted 10 first half rebounds, but did most of her scoring after halftime (nine points).

CCSU trailed Rhode Island 36-15 at halftime with the Blue Devils shooting just 20% (7-of-35) from the floor in the period.

After the half the roles were reversed with CCSU controlling the momentum and shooting 40.6% (13-of-32).  The Blue Devil defense limited the Rams to just five made field goals and forced 14 turnovers in the second half.

As a team, CCSU finished the game shooting 29.9% (20-of-67) from the floor, 9.5% (2-of-21) from beyond the arc and also struggled at the free throw line (25%, 4-of-16).

Freshman Camden Musgrave was CCSU's second leading scorer with nine points.

Senior Amanda Harrington and freshman Emma Stroyan each scored eight points to help CCSU hold a 34-26 advantage on scoring in the paint.  Harrington also had seven boards, while Storayn recorded four rebounds and two blocks.

Senior Kaley Watras played a team-high 33 minutes and posted five points, four rebounds and four assists.

Rhode Island finished the game shooting 38.5% from the floor, 30.8% from three and 60.9% at the free throw line.  Charise Wilson was the leading scorer for the Rams with a game-high 16 points.

CCSU trailed by as many as 21 points, but closed the gap to 12 points on two occasions in the second half.

The Blue Devils will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 9 against Fordham.  The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip at Detrick Gym and can be seen live on NECFrontRow.com.
