Women's Basketball Looks to Upend FDU's Win Streak Monday Night

After completing its three-game road series, the Central Connecticut women's basketball team returns to Detrick Gymnasium for a 7:00 p.m. Monday night showdown against Fairleigh Dickinson. FDU prevailed in the first contest between the two schools on January 15, 78-49.

LAST TIME OUT •The Blue Devils topped Sacred Heart on Saturday, 73-71, to complete the regular season series sweep with the Pioneers. With the score tied at 69-69, freshman Tiffany Slicklein drained a huge three with nine seconds left on the clock to propel to victory. Junior Kiana Patterson led three other players in double-figures with a career-high 25 points. Central Connecticut posted its best shooting performance of the year, hitting on 28-of-64 (.438) field goals and tied it's season high with 12 three-pointers.
MOST RECENTLY FOR FDU • The Knights enter Monday night on a five game winning streak after defeating Bryant in overtime 77-69 on the road Saturday. Natalie Zamora led two other Knights in double-figures with 15 points. The winning streak is the Knights' longest since FDU won six in a row during the 2010-11 season.
SERIES HISTORY • The Blue Devils hold a 24-17 edge of the Knights in the all-time series. Last time CCSU and Fairleigh Dickinson met inside Detrick Gymnasium, Central won in dominating fashion, 68-49. The Knights are 4-1 on the road in conference play this year and CCSU is 2-3 at home against NEC opponents.
CCSU IN THE NEC • The Blue Devils sit at 3-7 in the conference, after sweeping Sacred Heart and topping Wagner on Dec. 31. Central ranks second in the NEC in three-point field goal defense, holding teams to just 29.4 percent on average.
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS • Senior forward Amina Markovic, Fairleigh Dickinson's leading scorer (12.9 ppg.), leads the NEC in field goal percentage, sinkning 52.0% of her attempts from the floor. As a team, FDU is first in the league in free-throw percentage (71.4%) and field goal percentage (42.4%).
UP NEXT • The Blue Devils will host Bryant on Saturday, February 10 at 1:00 p.m. in New Britain, CT. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN3. CCSU will have a bye on Monday, Feb. 12 before heading to Wagner and Mount St. Mary's the following weekend.
