Blue Devils Battle For Playoff Berth At LIU Brooklyn on Sunday

The Central Connecticut women's basketball team will run with the Blackbirds of LIU Brooklyn on Sunday, March 4 for the 2017-18 regular season finale inside of Steinberg Wellness Center for Senior Day in Brooklyn, NY. The Blue Devils will face off LIU at 2:00 p.m. with a Northeast Conference Tournament berth on the line.

CCSU can qualify for the 2018 Northeast Conference Tournament with a win on Sunday or with a Mount St. Mary's or Fairleigh Dickinson loss. Central can reach as high as the four seed in the playoffs.

Senior Morgan Johnson scored a career high 18 points and drained six threes to lead the Blue Devils to their best overall shooting percentage of the season, .482 (27-56).

LIU shot 48.2 percent from the field en route to clinching a NEC playoff birth. Denisha Petty-Evans led all scorers with 22 points and DeAngelique Waithe added 20 points. The Blackbirds downed Bryant 69-61 that was led by a 42-point first half performance.

Series History •
Sunday marks the 37th all-time meeting between the two schools, with LIU holding a 20-16 advantage in the series. The Blackbirds edged the Blue Devils 61-54 earlier this season in New Britain, CT.

The First Match • LIU topped CCSU 61-54 in a close game that featured 12 lead changes. The Blackbirds out-scored Central 20-11 in the final quarter and were led by Petty-Evans with 29 points and five three-pointers.
