The Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell to Mount St. Mary's 61-44 on Monday night in Detrick Gymnasium. Central is now 6-19 on the season and 3-12 in conference play, while Mount advances to 13-13 and 7-8 in league.
In their first starts of the season, sophomore Emma McCamus and senior Sydney Hines got the Blue Devils off to a solid start scoring nine of the first 12 points for Central. McCamus went 3-4 in her first looks at the rim scoring the first six points for the Blue Devils. Hines drilled a three from the corner as Central trailed 11-10 at the first media timeout. The Mountaineers went on a 6-1 run in the last 2:46 of the quarter to take a 19-16 lead at the end of the first.
Junior Ashley Chin scored six straight points in the second quarter for Central to take a 22-20 lead. Mount went cold connecting on just 2-of-12 from the floor in the quarter with both baskets coming with less than a minute until halftime. The Blue Devils held the Mountaineers scoreless for over five minutes and had a 27-25 lead at half.
After the first 20 minutes of play, Central shot 10-31 (.322) including 3-13 (.231) from three. Mount St. Mary's shot 9-31 (.290) going 2-10 (.200) from deep.
The teams traded baskets to open the second half before Mount went on 11-3 knocking down three shots from deep giving them a 40-34 lead with 4:53 remaining in the third. The Mountaineers went 4-5 from behind the arc, outscoring Central 22-7 in the quarter. A three by senior Kiana Patterson cut the lead 47-37 going into the final 10 minutes of play.
Central went 5-6 from the foul line, and with a basket from Berube the Blue Devils cut the lead 49-44 with 5:46 on the clock. Mount capitalized on Central shooting just 1-of-15 in the quarter and went onto win 61-44.
Patterson scored 10 points and Hines totaled 10 points, two assists, and four rebounds. Senior Andi Lydon had a game-high four blocks.
Jatarrikah Settle led the Mountaineers with a double-double posting 13 points 11 rebounds.
