The Central Connecticut women's golf team stands in a tie for 17th place at the Rutgers University Women's Invitational on Friday. The first round is complete, and Central shot a total of 343 on the par-72 course that measures over 6,000 yards.
The Rutgers University Golf Course was founded in 1961 with the construction of the present day 18-hole layout that was expertly designed by Hal Purdy, a noted golf architect. The course was officially opened May 29, 1963. Today, the par-72 course can be stretched to 6,337 yards and features a course rating of 70.5 and a slope of 130.
Junior Katie Reid led the Blue Devils on day one carding an 82 to sit in a tie for 42nd place. She shot 41-41. Junior Stephanie Bednar shot an 86 and is tied for 70th, while freshman Albrianna Farnum's 87 puts her in a tie for 75th place.
Junior Anna Ausanio (88) and sophomore Gina Grant (90) rounded out the scoring for the Blue Devils.
The final round will take place on Saturday morning. Tee times are set to begin at 8:15 a.m.
