Central Connecticut senior Katie Reid of the women's golf team was recognized by the Northeast Conference on Wednesday. Reid earned her first career NEC Co-Golfer of the Week award after winning the Mount St. Mary's Spring Invitational on Tuesday.
Reid claimed the tournament's individual championship after a sudden death playoff with teammate Albrianna Farnum, who finished second. Reid defeated Farnum on the second playoff hole to win her first career tournament. The pair finished 12 strokes over-par.
The senior totaled 228 strokes for the tournament writing in round scores of 79, 73, and 76 in the first, second, and third rounds of the tournament respectively. Her best round came in round two where she shot a season-lowe score of 73 to place her in second place individually after Monday's round. Reid then topped the leader board with her 76 in round three.
Head Coach Carly Ludwig said of Reid, "This is a great win for Katie as a senior captain on this team. It was definitely a great way to finish out her last regular season tournament."
The win was Reid's first of her career as a Blue Devil and her second top-ten finish of the season. She helped lead her team to their first tournament victory since the Blue Devils won the Mount St. Mary's Spring Invitational last season. Reid is averaging a score of 82.7 over 13 rounds in 2012-13.
