Vendel each scored three goals and had an assist but the
Central Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team dropped
its Northeast Conference opener, 14-10, to visiting Bryant on
Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Blue Devils to 2-1 on the
season and 0-1 in NEC play. They return to action next Thursday
hosting Virgina Tech at 4 p.m.
Bryant took a 3-1 lead before the Blue Devils tied it at 3-3 with
back-to-back goals from Vendel and senior Lyndsey Mastandrea.
With the game tied 4-4, the Bulldogs scored two straight to take a
6-4 lead.
Central answered with two straight goals from Vendel, her second
and third of the game, tying the game at 6-6. With under a minute
to play Bryant scored the final goal of a half to take a 7-6
lead.
The Bulldogs scored the first two goals of the second half to up
its lead to 9-6. Perkoski and freshman Mackenzy Ryan scored to
cut the lead to 9-8 with 21:14 to play.
Bryant answered with five straight goals to open up a 14-8 lead
with just over four minutes to play. Perkoski and Ryan each scored
again, putting the final score at 14-10.
Perkoski and Vendel each posted three goals and one assist in the
game, tallying four points. Ryan added two goals and one assist
while junior Michele Conway had two
assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Erin DeLancey had 19 saves
in goal for the Blue Devils.
Bryant was led by Allison Faiola who had three goals and two
assists and Eliza Demarseilles who had a game-high four goals.
Lauren Filippone made 11 saves for her first victory of the season
in goal.
The Blue Devils return to action with their fourth straight home
game to open the 2010 season on Thursday, Mar. 11, hosting Virginia
Tech at 4 p.m.
