In her first week of collegiate lacrosse, Betsy Vendel earned Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week honors for her nine goal, three assist performance as she led Central Connecticut to its best start in program history. The freshman scored a hat trick in each of the first three games of the Blue Devils' season, as they topped Presbyterian and Fresno State before falling to Bryant.
Vendel poured in three goals and added four ground balls in the Blue Devils' 14-13 win over Presbyterian on Tuesday. She then finished with another three goals, this time adding two assists to lead Central past Fresno State 11-9 on Wednesday. On Saturday she totaled another four points in a losing effort against Bryant. The attacker netted three more goals, while assisting on another. In total, Vendel finished with nine goals, three assists and six ground balls during CCSU's 2-1 week.
