Central Connecticut lacrosse sophomore Meaghan McCurry has been named Northeast Conference Player of the Week for her performance in the Blue Devils last two games. McCurry has been a goal scoring machine this season, and was especially clutch against Manhattan College when she netted three goals in the Blue Devils late second half comeback.
McCurry started off her week with a seven point performance against Manhattan on Thursday night. The Blue Devil attacker was not deterred by the poor conditions as she scored four goals and assisted on three others. McCurry scored three of her goals in the second half as Central rallied from a 15-9 deficit to win 18-17.
The next stop for the Blue Devils was at another MAAC opponent, they visited Niagara on Saturday afternoon. McCurry scored three goals in the Niagara game to up her points total to 10 for the week. She was joined by teammates Ashley Perkoski and Betsy Vendel who also recorded hat-tricks as the Blue Devils won 13-12.
The 10 points this week give McCurry a team-high 21 for the season. She has scored a team-high 15 of the Blue Devils 63 goals and is second on the team with six assists. McCurry also ranks first in the NEC in points per game (4.20), second in goals per game (3.0) and fifth in assists per game (1.2).
McCurry's strong play has helped fuel the Blue Devils 3-2 start. They return to action tomorrow when they host Liberty at 4 p.m. on Arute Field. The game is the first of a two week long five game home stand for the lacrosse team. The stretch includes the first three NEC games of the season against Quinnipiac, Monmouth and Mount St. Mary's.
