The Central Connecticut lacrosse team extended its winning streak to four games with dominating 20-10 victory over Howard University on Friday afternoon. The Blue Devils improve to 5-2 on the season with the victory and Howard falls to 3-5 with the loss. Central was led by a trio of players who recorded five points including sophomores Meaghan McCurry, Betsy Vendel and senior Michele Conway. Also leading the attack was sophomore Mackenzy Ryan who notched four goals in the game.
The Blue Devils scored early and often to start the game, building a 7-1 lead 20 minutes into the contest. Vendel found Ryan for the first Central goal just over three minutes into the game. Conway scored on a free position attempt two minutes later and junior Ashley Perkoski followed just seconds later with another free position goal.
Howard got on the board seven minutes into the game as Cynithia Smalls scored unassisted to make it a 3-1 game. Central quickly answered with four goals.
Conway feed McCurry for a goal with 20:47 left in the half. Ryan followed that with an unassisted goal, he second of the game. Freshman Claire Healy made it a 6-1 game when she scored on a free position attempt, and then she helped close the run as she assisted on McCurry's second goal of the game.
After Howard cut the lead to 7-2 the Blue Devils scored a pair of goals to push their lead to seven. Freshman Amanda Toke passed to Ryan for her third goal and Vendel assisted McCurry on her third score of the game.
Coutrland Lackey notched back-to-back goals, her second and third of the game, to make it 9-4 with 6:35 left in the period.
McCurry notched a pair of assists on the next two Central goals. She passed to Conway for the final score of the first half making it a 11-5 game and then she started the second half by assisting senior Lyndsey Mastandrea.
Mastandrea's goal gave the Blue Devils a 12-5 lead only 40 second into the second half. Central started the half on a 6-0 run and did not allow the Broncos to score a goal until 14 minutes into the period.
Mastendrea, Ryan, Perkoski, and Vendel all scored goals for the Blue Devils in the run. Conway closed out the 6-0 run with back-to-back scores. After a Howard goal, Mastandrea scored unassisted to make it an 18-6 game.
The Bronco's answered with a score, but so did the Blue Devils as senior Kacey Bisienere passed to Healy for a score. Healy then returned the favor assisting Bisienere for the final score of the game giving the Blue Devils the 20-10 victory.
Junior goalkeeper Erin Delancey finished with 16 saves as she improved to 5-2 on the season with the victory.
Conway and Ryan shared a game-high four goals. Conway, McCurry, and Vendel shared a game-high five points. Four of Vendel's points came on her game-high assists. Perkoski notched three goals and Mastandrea and Healy each had a pair.
The Blue Devils return to action on Sunday as they host Quinnipiac in the first game of the Northeast Conference season.
