The Central Connecticut lacrosse team dropped its second Northeast Conference game of the season on Friday afternoon. The Blue Devils fell to Monmouth by a score of 16-6. The loss drops Central to 0-2 in the NEC and 5-4 overall on the season. Sophomore Meaghan McCurry and senior Michele Conway each scored two goals for the Blue Devils.
Monmouth jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the opening 10 minutes of the game. Monmouth recorded 11 first half goals without surrendering a score to the Blue Devils. Sam Lillo had three goals and Carissa Franzi had two to lead the Hawks in the first half.
The Blue Devils stepped up in the second half scoring six goals while limiting Monmouth to only five. Senior Lyndsey Mastandrea opened up the second half scoring with an unassisted goal at the 17:35 mark.
Five minutes later, after a Monmouth goal, Conway recorded a free position goal to cut the lead to 12-2.
Monmouth recorded back-to-back goals to make it a 14-2 lead, but Central again answered with their own scores. This time it junior Ashley Perkoski scoring her ninth goal of the season unassisted, and then McCurry notching her 20th goal of the year off of sophomore Betsy Vendel's 19th assist.
Monmouth and Central each scored twice more in the game. The Blue Devil scores came from Conway and McCurry. The goal was the second of the game and the 21st of the season for both. Junior Ashley Mara picked up her fifth assist of the year as she helped McCurry on the final score of the game, cutting the lead to 16-6.
Junior Erin DeLancey took the loss in the net for the Blue Devils. She falls to 5-4 on the season. She made nine saves as the Hawks launched 25 shots on goal.
The Blue Devils return to action on Sunday when they host NEC rival Mount St. Mary's at 1 p.m. on Arute Field.
