Sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Tullar was named Northeast Conference Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for the second time on Monday afternoon. Tullar limited the La Salle Explorers to eight goals over 66 minutes of action in an overtime setback.
Tullar recorded 14 saves on 22 shots as Central Connecticut battled the Atlantic 10's first place team on Saturday before falling 8-7 in overtime on the road.
Of her 14 saves, 10 of them came in the first half as CCSU held the Explorers to just two goals and took a 2-1 deficit into the break. Tullar added four more saves in the second period and the game went to overtime tied 7-7. Unfortunately, Tullar and the Blue Devils surrendered an eighth and deciding goal to the Explorers in the extra period.
La Salle entered Saturday's game averaging 14.6 goals per game and holding a 6-1 record on the season.
Six games into her first season as CCSU's starter, Tullar has posted 55 saves and is averaging 9.2 saves per game. She has played every minute in goal for CCSU this season.
Her 14 saves on Saturday set a new career-high eclipsing her previous high of 11, which she posted in each of the first two games this season. Tullar previously earned NEC Defensive Player of the Week honors on February 25, following her performance in an 11-10 loss to Lafayette in the season opener.
Tullar and the Blue Devils will return to action on Tuesday afternoon at Manhattan College.
