Seven Second Half Goals Lift Lax Over Siena

The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team faced a four-goal deficit in the second half, but a 7-0 run lifted the Blue Devils to a 12-10 victory at Siena on Wednesday.  The Blue Devils (2-2) trailed the Saints 9-5, but CCSU scored seven second half goals to secure the victory.

The Blue Devils were led by sophomore Falynn McCartney who totaled five points, including four goals in the contest.

Trailing 8-5 at the half, the Blue Devils surrendered a ninth goal to the Saints just 92 seconds into the second half, but following that score CCSU dominated play scoring seven straight goals to take a 12-9 lead.

McCartney opened the run with an unassisted goal at the 27:47 mark and followed it with another unassisted score at the 24:11 mark.  Senior Amanda Toke cut the deficit to a single-point on a free position goal with 21:01 left to play and 12 seconds later sophomore Elyse Malecki tied the game on a free position goal.

The trio continued to score as McCartney gave CCSU a 10-9 lead with 17:42 left to play, again on an unassisted goal.  Toke and Malecki each followed with scores to give CCSU a three-goal advantage with 10:35 left to play.  Freshman Jessica Giangarra was credited with the assist on Toke's goal.

Junior Brigit Hogan, McCartney, senior Claire Healy and freshman Alexandra Hooker each scored goals for CCSU in the first half.  Hogan scored CCSU's first and fifth goals of the half with McCartney and Toke recording the assists.

McCartney's first half goal was unassisted, as was Hookers.  Healy scored on a free position shot.

Defensively, the Blue Devils caused eight turnovers in the contest.  Sophomore Madison Hughes caused three turnovers and scooped up a pair of ground balls.

Freshman Courtney McPartland and Marissa Soto each recorded a team-high three ground balls.  Senior Cierra Ward also had two ground balls and a caused turnover for the defense.

Junior goalkeeper Morgan Tullar improved her season record to 2-2 with the victory.  She made six saves and had two ground balls in the game.

Toke (4), McCartney (3) and Soto (2) combined for nine of CCSU's 11 draw controls in the game.

The Blue Devils return to action on March 13 at Stony Brook.
