Freshman Megan Szawlowski scored five goals in her first game as a Blue Devil and junior Kylie Sullivan added three goals and an assist but it wasn't enough as the Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team dropped a 10-9 decision to Quinnipiac on the road on Saturday.
Central led 7-5 after an even first half that saw neither team lead by more than one goal until Szawlowski scored twice in the final 3:41 to give the Blue Devils the 7-5 lead. She scored all five of her goals before halftime.
The Bobcats answered with a five goal run in the next 12 minutes to build a 10-8 lead with 11:38 to play in the game.
Neither team would find the back of the net until the Blue Devils scored with 2:05 on the clock. Sullivan scored her third goal of the game, unassisted, to cut the lead to 10-9.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jackie Branthover made five saves in net for the Blue Devils in the loss.
Szawlowski led the offense with five goals, while Sullivan had three goals to go along with an assist. Soto added a goal, and Hooker had two assists in the loss. Szawlowski had four draw controls to lead CCSU. Defensively senior Courtney McPartland and junior Natalie each forced three turnovers.
The Blue Devils are back in action on the road at Iona on Feb. 22 at 3 p.m.
