Women's Lacrosse Tops St. Francis U, Soto Tops 100 Career Points

Senior Marissa Soto scored six times and freshman Megan Szawlowski scored four goals and added three assists as the Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team topped Saint Francis U 18-13 on the road on Sunday.  The win moves the Blue Devils to 2-3 in Northeast Conference play this season.

Soto's seven point afternoon pushed her over the 100 career point mark, giving her 101 career points with two games left in the regular season.  She is the 11th player in program history to reach that milestone.  Her 84 career goals are eighth in school history.

After the Red Flash took a 2-1 lead early in the Blue Devils offense took over and scored five straight goals to take 6-2 lead with 13 minutes left before halftime.  Szawlowski scored three times in a nine minute span while Soto scored twice and freshman Cameron Ruberti added a goal during the 5-0 run.

The Red Flash responded, scoring four straight goals in the less than three minutes, to tie the game 6-6.

The Blue Devil offense answered again, scoring five of the game's next six goals to build an 11-7 lead.  They would lead 11-8 at halftime.

Junior Kylie Sullivan had a pair of goals during the run, while Soto, freshman Morgan Sinton and senior Jessica Giangarra all scored before halftime.

After the Red Flash scored the first goal of the second half the Blue Devils then score five of the game's next six goals to build the lead to 16-11.  They would win 18-13.

Ruberti, Szawlowski, Sinton, Soto and Giangarra each scored as the Blue Devils won their second league game of the season.

Sophomore Jackie Branthover won her third game of the season and made 10 saves in goal.  

Central returns home for their final two games of the regular season, hosting Wagner on Friday and Mount St. Mary's on Sunday.
