Women's Lacrosse Comes Up Just Short in Home Loss to Manhattan

The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team dropped a 7-4 home decision to Manhattan on Wednesday afternoon in New Britain.  The Blue Devils led 4-3 at the half, but the Jaspers were able to hold Central without a goal in the final 30 minutes to claim the victory.  With the loss Central drops to 1-4 overall on the season.  They return to action on March 14 at home hosting Presbyterian.

Juniors Molly Coogan and Morgan Sinton each scored twice and added an assist in the game for the Blue Devils.  Senior goalkeeper Jackie Branthover made eight saves in the game.

The Jaspers climbed out to a 2-0 lead early in the first half, but the Blue Devils responded by scoring four of the final five goals of the half and taking a 4-3 lead at the break.  Central held the Jaspers to one goal in the final 19:24 of the half, and scoreless for the final 13:15.

Coogan scored two straight, one off an assist from Sinton, to tie the game 2-2 with 16:13 left in the first half.  Manhattan took a 3-2 lead before Sinton's two goals in the final 6:46 gave the Blue Devils the one goal lead at the break.

Manhattan, however, would hold CCSU scoreless in the second half, as four different players scored to give the visitors the 7-4 win.  The Jaspers are now 4-1 on the season with the victory.

The Blue Devils return to action with their third straight home game on March 14 hosting Presbyterian at 4 p.m.
