The Central Connecticut women's soccer team fell to 1-1-1 on the
season with a 2-1 loss on the road at Vermont in the first game of
the TDBanknorth Classic on Friday. The Blue Devils return to
action on Sunday at 11 a.m. when they play New Hampshire in their
second and final game of the Classic being held at the University
of Vermont.
The Blue Devils outshot the Catamounts 19-8 in the game including a
10-2 margin in the first half but the game remained tied 1-1 at the
break.
The Catamounts scored first at 17:28 when Gabby Bonfigli put back a
rebound off a save by Blue Devil keeper Caity
Casey on Bonfigli's first shot attempt. Casey was making her
first start of the season for the Blue Devils and made two saves in
90:00 minutes of action.
Central Connecticut evened the score when Leah
Blayney scored her first goal of the season off an assist by
sophomore captain Clio
Tregear. Tregear's shot hit the crossbar and Blayney put back
the rebound to tie the game at 1-1 at 32:12.
The Catamounts, despite being outshot 9-6 in the second half,
scored the only goal following halftime to earn the 2-1 victory.
Emily Perrin slipped behind the CCSU defense and beat Casey to give
the Catamounts the one goal advantage at 68:26.
The Blue Devils outshot the Catamounts 19-8 in the game and had a
10-0 advantage on corner kicks, but were able to beat Vermont
goalkeeper Liza Bradley just once on the day. She made seven saves
in the game as the host team moved to 1-1 on the season.
CCSU returns to action on Sunday at 11 a.m. to face New Hampshire
in the second and final game for the Blue Devils at the TD
Banknorth Classic at the University of Vermont.
