Senior Erin Herd Named Northeast Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Senior goalkeeper Erin Herd was named the Brine/Northeast
Conference women's soccer defensive player of the week, it was
announced on Monday by the league office. Herd posted a pair of
shutouts for the Blue Devils last week and now has four on the
season. The senior netminder has not allowed a goal in over 370
Herd's solid performances between the pipes last week resulted in a pair of shutouts, earning her third consecutive shutout and fourth in five games on the season, helping the Blue Devils match the second longest shutout streak in school history. Herd now boasts a 0.18 goals against average, having allowed only one goal in 510:00 minutes of action.
The Australia native made eight saves on Friday in a scoreless double overtime draw with the University of Delaware, then stopped four more shots against Navy in another 0-0 deadlock on Sunday in the Naval Academy Tournament in Annapolis.
The senior netminder has not allowed a shot to hit the back of the net in her last 370:05 minutes played, dating back to the win over UConn on August 25th. The last time a CCSU goalkeeper posted three straight shutouts was the end of 2005.
Herd has nine shutouts in her career.
CCSU returns to action in its 2008 home opener on Friday hosting Holy Cross at 5 p.m. on the CCSU Soccer Field.
