For the second consecutive week Central Connecticut senior
goalkeeper Erin Herd has been named the Northeast Conference
women's soccer defensive player of the week. Herd allowed only one
goal in a 1-1 week for the Blue Devils and also posted her fifth
shutout of the season.
Herd extended her shutout total to five games - an NEC best - on
Friday with a 2-0 win over Holy Cross. The victory also marked the
fourth consecutive shutout for the Australia native.
Despite a tough loss to #13 Boston College on Sunday, Herd made
nine saves against the nationally-ranked squad in the 1-0
decision. The senior netminder continues to post the league's best
goals against average (0.26), having let up only a pair of goals in
690 minutes of action.
The goal against Boston College was the first allowed for Herd in
over 500 minutes of action. She has stopped 33 of 35 shots faced
this season and has a league-best five shutouts.
The Blue Devils are in action again on Sunday when they play at
Hofstra at 3 p.m.
