Central Connecticut women's soccer picked up two of three Northeast Conference weekly honors following a 2-0 weekend at home. Junior Rachel Caneen was named the Brine/NEC Player of the Week, while freshman Brittany Jackson earned Brine/NEC Rookie of the Week honors. Caneen scored four times in the two Blue Devil wins, recording a hat trick in a 4-0 win over Mount St. Mary's before posting a goal in a 3-2 victory over Monmouth. Jackson had a pair of assists versus the Mount and notched what proved to be the game-winning goal against the Hawks. CCSU is now 3-1 in league play and 6-4-4 overall.
Caneen, who led CCSU in scoring a year ago, registered her first career hat trick in CCSU's 4-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's on Oct. 10. The Stafford Springs, CT native also scored the first of three Blue Devil goals against Monmouth on Oct. 12. That win snapped the Hawks's nine-game unbeaten streak. Caneen now leads the team in scoring with 13 points on six goals and one assist, good for a tie for third in the league.
Jackson also came through for the Blue Devils, producing a four-point weekend with two assists and a game-winning goal. The forward notched a pair of helpers in the victory over Mount St. Mary's, marking her first career points. She then buried the eventual game-winner in the win over Monmouth on Oct. 12. Jackson's offensive output helped the Blue Devils move into a first-place tie in the league.
Central Connecticut will be on the road this weekend, traveling to Wagner and Long Island. The Blue Devils take on Wagner at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17 before visiting LIU for a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday, Oct. 19.
