Women's Soccer Shuts Out Wagner 4-0 on the Road on Friday Afternoon
Four different Blue Devils posted goals and junior goalkeeper
Caity Casey posted her fifth career shutout as the Blue Devils
defeated Wagner 4-0 on the road on Friday afternoon. With the win
CCSU moves to 7-4-4 overall and 4-1 in Northeast Conference play.
They continue conference action on the road on Sunday at Long
Island beginning at 1 p.m.
The win is the fourth straight for the Blue Devils, all in conference action, and is the third by shutout during that stretch. Casey, who has taken over in goal since an injury to senior Erin Herd, posted her first shutout of the season in the game. She made 11 saves, including seven in the first half, to post her fifth career shutout.
Again the Blue Devils wasted little time taking control of the game and scored the first goal at 5:49 of the first half. Junior Leah Blayney took a feed from classmate Rachel Caneen and beat Wagner keeper Leslie Reed to the top right corner from 20 yards out.
Freshman Brittany Jackson, this week's NEC Rookie of the Week, scored her second goal in as many games at 32:44 to put the Blue Devils up 2-0. Sophomore Clio Tregear fed her from 30 yards out for the score.
The Blue Devils led 2-0 at the half despite being outshot 13-6, including 7-4 in shots on goal. Casey made seven saves in the first half to preserve the lead.
Sophomore Beth Lloyd scored her first goal of the season and the fourth of her career at 60:29 to put the visitors up 3-0. Blayney fed Lloyd who scored from 20 yards out. Tregear added to her points total by scoring her fifth goal of the season at 87:55 to complete the scoring. Defender Hannah Bromley was credited with the assist on the play, which gave CCSU the four goal edge.
The win gives the Blue Devils 12 points on the season in league play and keeps them in s share for first place. They have four conference games remaining this season, two of those will be played at home.
The Blue Devils return to action on Sunday on the road at Long Island at 1 p.m.
