Blue Devils Match Program Record With 10th Shutout; Earn #2 Seed in NEC Tournament

The Central Connecticut women's soccer team matched its program record with its 10th shutout of the season on Sunday. The Blue Devils topped Quinnipiac 1-0 on the road on Sunday to move to 10-6-4 overall and finish the Northeast Conference regular season with a 7-2 mark. CCSU will play in this week's NEC Tournament beginning on Friday, November 7. CCSU and Monmouth, who both finished 7-2 in league play, will meet on Friday. CCSU is the #2 seed while Monmouth is the #3 seed. The games will be played at the Aviator Sports Complex in Brooklyn, NY. Central Connecticut's Leah Blayney scored the game's lone goal in the first half at 34:21. Blayney took a cross from teammate Ciara Crinion across the right side of the box and beat Quinnipiac keeper Jillian Kelley for her sixth goal of the season.

The Blue Devils held a 7-5 edge in shots on the goal in the game and a pair of goalkeepers combined for the shutout. They had a 16-10 edge in total shots on the afternoon. Senior Erin Herd played the first 45 minutes of the game making three saves. Junior Caity Casey played the final 45 minutes and recorded a pair of saves to preserve the shutout.

CCSU matched the program record of 10 shutouts in a season with the 1-0 win. In 2005 the Blue Devils also had 10 shutouts in the season, all of them by former keeper Ashley Ferra.

The Blue Devils advance to their seventh straight NEC Tournament beginning on Friday. The Blue Devils will play on Friday against #3 Monmouth at a time to be determined. Information on the time and location of the game will be posted online as soon as it becomes available.
