Central Connecticut placed six players on the 2008 Northeast
Conference All-Conference squads, it was announced on Thursday
night in Brooklyn. The Blue Devils placed four players on the the
first team and two on the second following a 7-2 NEC season and a
#2 seed in the NEC Tournament, which begins on Friday. CCSU will
face #3 Monmouth on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Aviator Sports
Complex in Brooklyn, NY.
Senior goalkeeper Erin Herd, juniors Leah Blayney and Karise Hilt and sophomore Clio Tregear were all named to the first team while senior Hannah Bromley and junior Rachel Caneen were named to the second team for the Blue Devils. The four first place selections for the Blue Devils is the second-most they have ever placed on the first team. In 2005 CCSU placed five players on that team. The six total selections match the most-ever for CCSU in a single season and it tied for the most of any team in the league in 2008.
Herd is 6-2-4 in goal with a goals against average of 0.65 and a save percentage of .869. She has six shutouts on the year. She is among the all-time leaders for the Blue Devils with 11 career shutouts in her four seasons.
Blayney and Tregear both finished second on the squad this season with six goals. Blayney added a team-best five assists while Tregear was second with four. Blayney was second on the team in scoring with 17 points while Tregear was right behind with 16. Tregear was a second team selection in 2007. Blayney was a first team pick a year ago.
The Blue Devils are led defensively by Bromley and Hilt. Bromley has played in 18 games this season and is a large factor in CCSU posting a program-record 10 shutouts on the year. She also scored her first career goal this year. Hilt, who has played in 19 games, has three goals and an assist on the year and was one of only two non-goalkeepers to be named the NEC Defensive Player of the Week this season. Hilt was a second team selection in 2006.
Caneen leads the Blue Devils in scoring this season with 10 goals and three assists, good for 23 points. Caneen, who also led the team in scoring as a sophomore, has moved into fifth place all-time with 22 career goals. She was a first team pick a year ago.
