The Central Connecticut women's soccer team played to a 2-2 tie
at Vermont on Sunday afternoon. The game was the second of the
weekend for the Blue Devils in the TD Banknorth Classic at the
University of Vermont. CCSU topped Siena 1-0 on Friday afternoon.
They are now 1-0-1 on the season. CCSU open's its home season on
Friday at 1 p.m. hosting Buffalo.
Junior Cleo Tregear scored twice in the game, her first and second goals of the season. Trailing 1-0, Tregear's header off a throw in by teammate Karise Hilt tied the game at 1-1 at 35:08.
The two teams went into halftime still tied. The Blue Devils outshot the Catamounts 8-4 in the half, and 17-10 overall in the game. Senior goalkeeper Caity Casey had one save before the break.
Tregear broke the tied at 59:04 with her second goal of the game. Following a corner kick she headed it past the Vermont keeper, off a pass from Abby Graham, and gave CCSU the one goal lead.
The lead stood until the Catamounts scored with under six minutes to play in the game. At 83:44 Heidi Hessier tied the game and sent it to overtime.
Central outshot the Catamounts 3-0 in the two overtime periods but were unable to find the back of the net for the third time in the game. The tie moves CCSU to 1-0-1 on the season., Hilt
Tregear, Hilt and senior Leah Blayney were all named to the All-Tournament Team for their efforts over the weekend. Blayney scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Siena on Friday afternoon.
The Blue Devils return to action on Friday afternoon in their home opener. CCSU hosts Buffalo at 1 p.m.
