The Central Connecticut State University women's soccer team
dropped a 3-2 decision at Columbia on Tuesday night. The Blue
Devils, trailing 3-1 with under two minutes to play, got a goal at
the 88:31 mark to climb within one. After regaining possession,
the Blue Devils had a shot to tie as time expired but the shot went
wide. CCSU drops to 2-5-1 on the season with the loss. They open
Northeast Conference play on Sunday hosting Quinnipiac at 2
The Blue Devils struck first at 33:09 in the first half to take the 1-0 lead. Beth Lloyd scored her first goal of the season off an assist from senior Leah Blayney.
The Lions tied the game before halftime off a free kick from Kelly Hostetler. After halftime, the Lions upped the lead to 3-1 just under five minutes into the second half. Marissa Schultz scored her first two goals of the season to give the home team the two goal edge.
Central climbed within a goal when Brittany Emin scored her first goal of the season at 88:31, making it 3-2. Blayney also assisted on the second goal for the Blue Devils.
With under a minute to play, the Blue Devils regained possession of the ball. A foul was called against Columbia and CCSU received a free kick. With under 10 seconds to play, the Blue Devils missed a pair of chances at the goal as time expired.
Freshman Jamie Trayer played the first half for the Blue Devils in goal, making her first career start. She allowed one goal and made one save. Senior Caity Casey played the second half, and gave up a pair of goals while making four saves.
The Blue Devils return to action on Sunday at home hosting Quinnipiac at 2 p.m.
