Junior Lauren Salvia scored the
only goal of the game for the Blue Devils as Central Connecticut
played to a 1-1 draw with visiting Long Island on Sunday
afternoon. The Blue Devils got two saves in goal from senior Caity
Casey and are now 7-6-2 overall and 5-0-1 in Northeast
Conference play. They are in action again next Friday at Monmouth
at 3 p.m.
The two teams played a scoreless first half and managed just nine total shots in the first 45 minutes. The game was played in a consistent rain and in sub-40 degree temperature in New Britain.
In the second half it was the Blue Devils who got on the board first. Sophomore Brittany Jackson fed Salvia who took a shot from the top right side of the box. The ball sailed over the head of Long Island keeper Jennifer Bannon and into the top left corner of the net for the one goal lead for Central.
The Blackbirds answered five minutes later with Katie Egan made a move at the top of the box to beat Casey. She had a clearn shot at the goal and tied the game.
The Blue Devils had a chance in the final 10 minutes of play to take the lead but a shot by sophomore Jillian Cipriano hit the post and the rebound shot by Brittany Emin sailed just wide right.
Each keeper made two stops in the game. The Blue Devils held a 13-8 edge in shots. Each team had three shots on goal. Central held a 4-2 edge on corner kicks.
The Blue Devils return to action on Friday afternoon at Monmouth beginning at 3 p.m. They will also play at Mount St. Mary's next Sunday at 3 p.m. in their final road game of the regular season.
