Freshman Allison Kelley Scores Twice as Blue Devils Top Albany 3-0
Freshman Allison
Kelley scored her first two collegiate goals as the Central
Connecticut women's soccer team topped Albany 3-0 on Sunday. All
three goals for the Blue Devils came in the second half, and
freshman goalkeeper Nikola
Deiter made seven saves in net for her first career shutout.
Central returns to action next Sunday as they open Northeast
Conference play at Quinnipiac.
After a scoreless first half, Kelley scored her first goal of the
season at 64:31 to put the Blue Devils ahead for good in the
match. She took the rebound after a save on a shot by teammate Alyssa
Gillespie and sent it past Albany keeper Dani Britt for the one
goal lead.
Classmate Rachel
Cerrone also scored her first career goal for the Blue Devils
to make it 2-0 less than five minutes later. The goal was assisted
by senior Beth
Lloyd. Senior Clio
Tregear assisted on Kelley's second goal which came at 83:04
and gave the Blue Devils their second straight victory. They are
now 4-5 overall on the season.
Deiter was stellar in goal in recording her first career shutout.
She made seven saves, including five in the second half, to blank
the Great Danes. Albany outshot the Blue Devils 19-15 but Central
held a 10-7 advantage in shots on goal.
The Blue Devils are finished with non-conference play, and will
begin NEC action next Sunday on the road at Quinnipiac.
