Women's Soccer Beats Providence 2-1

The Central Connecticut women's soccer team scored twice in the first 3:40 and came away with a 2-1 victory over Providence on Friday.  The game was played at Yale.  Central is now 1-0-1 on the season following the victory.

A pair of freshman scored their first career goals in the win for the Blue Devils.

Freshman Rosie Maguire scored her first goal of the season just 1:04 into the game to give the Blue Devils the early lead.  She assisted on the second goal of the game, coming from classmate Julie Lavoie, at 3:40 to give Central the two goal edge.

"This is a great win for our program and the University," head coach Mick D'Arcy said following the victory.  "We got off to a great start and it helped our confidence tremendously.  We were able to hold them off in the second half and come away with the win.  I'm proud of our team."

Sophomore goalkeeper Nikola Deiter made 11 saves in goal to earn her first victory of the year.  She allowed her first goal of the season in the second half.

Providence outshot Central 18-8 in the game, but Deiter came up with her second straight strong performance to begin her second season with the Blue Devils.  Deiter made 14 saves in the season-opener, and has stopped 25 of 26 shots faced this season.

Central returns to action, also at Yale, facing Marist on Sunday.
