Blue Devils Drop 2-1 Decision to Marist

Freshman Rosie Maguire scored her second goal in as many games but the Central Connecticut women's soccer team dropped its first game of the season, 2-1, to Marist on Sunday.  The game was played at Yale University.

Central finishes the weekend at Yale 1-1-0, after beating Providence 2-1 on Friday afternoon.  They are now 1-1-1 overall on the season.

Maguire scored the lone goal of the game for the Blue Devils on a penalty kick late in the 83rd minute of action.  She had a goal and an assist in the victory over the Friars on Friday.  She leads the team in scoring this season with two goals and one assist, good for five points.

Sophomore goalkeeper Nikola Deiter picked up her first loss of the season.  She made six saves in goal on the afternoon.   Through three games this season she has allowed just three goals, while making 30 saves.

Marist scored one goal in the first half and led 1-0 at the break.  Rycke Guiney took a rebound off the post and beat Deiter for the one goal lead.

In the second half Amanda Epstein scored in the 62nd minute off a cross to give the Red Foxes the 2-0 lead.

Maguire's second goal of the season came at 82:09 after a yellow card against Marist.   The Red Foxes held a 15-7 advantage in shots in the game.  They had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks, and the two teams combined for 31 fouls in the contest.

The Blue Devils return to action on Friday, Sept. 9 vs. Holy Cross at the Fairfield University Classic.  Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
