The Central Connecticut women's soccer team was honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for its outstanding performance in the classroom for the 2011-12 school year. The team was awarded the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 11th consecutive season, the NSCAA announced Thursday.
To be eligible for the award, teams must complete the school year with a grade point average above a 3.0. CCSU earned a 3.28 to join the 497 women's teams and 220 men's teams to earn the award. Central was one of only 148 schools to have both their men's and women's teams make it on the list.
CCSU was honored along with seven other Northeast Conference teams.
