Women's Soccer Tops Yale on Monday Night

The Central Connecticut women's soccer team posted its sixth win of the season with a 4-0 win over Yale on Monday night in New Britain.  With the victory the Blue Devils are now 6-4-3 overall on the year.  They are 5-1-2 in their last eight matches.  Yale falls to 5-4-2 overall on the season with the loss.

The Blue Devils took a 1-0 lead with 9:41 left in the first half.  Junior Claire Walsh sent the ball into the box and it deflected off a Yale defender.  Sophomore Alysa Christo grabbed the rebound and fired it past Yale goalkeeper Elisa Wilcox with her third goal of the season to give the Blue Devils the lead.

Yale held a 7-2 advantage in shots and a slight 3-2 edge in shots on goal in the first half.  Senior Rebecca Lewis made three saves for Central before halftime in her first start of the season.

The Blue Devils wasted no time in the second half taking a 2-0 lead.  Junior Brianne Casey scored her first goal of the season with 40:25 left in the match to give the Blue Devils the two goal lead.  Casey took a feed from freshman Brianna Scaldaferri just outside the box, and punched it over Yale keeper Rachel Ames for the goal.  Ames had entered the game at halftime for the Bulldogs.

Senior Tori Sousa scored her fifth goal of the season with 7:39 on the clock to push the lead to 3-0.  Christo had a shot for her second goal of the game but after her attempt was stopped Sousa picked up a rebound and found the back of the net.  Senior Julie Lavoie scored her third of the season with under two minutes to play to make it 4-0.

Lewis posted her first victory of the season in the match, making eight saves.

The Blue Devils will continue their Northeast Conference schedule this Friday night at 7 p.m. vs. Sacred Heart on the CCSU Soccer Field.
