The Blue Devils Face Top-Seeded Hoyas in NCAA Tournament

The Central Connecticut women's soccer team will face the No. 1-seeded Georgetown University Hoyas in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 10. Kickoff is scheduled for noon at Shaw Field in Washington D.C.

The Blue Devils are coming off their ninth Northeast Conference Championship, which they beat Saint Francis U. 2-1. They are making their ninth NCAA Tournament appearance, the seventh under head coach Mick D'Arcy. The last time Central played in the tournament was in 2014 which they fell to Harvard 6-0. CCSU enters the tournament on a 10 game winning streak with an overall record of 16-1-2.

The Hoyas of Georgetown, ranked second in the nation in the Uniter Soccer Coaches Poll, will be making their seventh-straight NCAA Tournament appearance. Georgetown won its third consecutive Big East Championship title after a 1-0 shutout against Butler.

TOURNAMENT NOTES

AGAINST GEORGETOWN: This is the first ever meeting between the Blue Devils and the Hoyas.

TO DATE: Central Connecticut is 1-8 in NCAA Tournament play. The last time the Blue Devils played in the NCAA Tournament was in 2014 against Harvard, which CCSU fell 6-0. The only NCAA victory for Cental was a 1-0 victory over Boston College in 2003, in the second round the Blue Devils lost to UConn 3-2 in double overtime. 

CAVANAUGH: Senior goalkeeper Ashley Cavanaugh is reigning Goalkeeper of the Year and broke the program-record for most shutouts in a single-season with 11 so far this year. The previous record was 10 held by Ashley Ferra in 2005. So far this season, Cavanaugh has allowed just ten goals and currently holds the all-time school record for fewest goals allowed in a single-season (12).
