Central Connecticut freshmen Kristen Malski and Sam Smolicz received Northeast Conference honors after their first collegiate meet this weekend. Malski was named NEC Swimmer of the Week, while Smolicz was tabbed Diver of the Week for their performances at the Sonny Werblin Invitational at Rutgers University.
At the Sonny Werblin Invite, Malski swam to a third-place finish
in the 100 breaststroke, pacing the Blue Devils with a time of
1:08.87. The freshman also took sixth place in the 200
breaststroke, clocking in at 2:32.08. Malski helped CCSU's 200
medley relay squad take fifth place in 1:53.72.
Smolicz was CCSU's top diver in both board events at the Sonny
Werblin Invitational this past weekend. The newcomer took sixth
place in the three-meter, while placing eighth in the one-meter
dive.
The Blue Devils will continue competition when Central hosts the
Annual Alumni Meet/Pentathlon on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 10:00
a.m.
