For the second week in a row Central Connecticut freshman Sam Smolicz and Blue Devil sophomore Megan McGorry were named Northeast Conference Diver and Swimmer of the Week, respectively. Smolicz placed fourth in both the one and three meter diving events at Saturday's meet against New Hampshire, while McGorry took home victories in the 500 free, 1000 free and 200 fly against the Wildcats.
This is the second NEC honor in as many weeks for Smolicz and she has now captured three Diver of the Week accolades this season. Against UNH the freshman recorded a career best in the one-meter event, scoring 190.12. She also notched a 168.00 in the three-meter dive which was also good enough for fourth place.
Last week McGorry received Swimmer of the Week honors for the first time, as she broke a CCSU pool record. This weekend the sophomore backed up last week's award with another stellar performance. McGorry won the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:09.00, the 1000 free in 10:30.25 and the 200 butterfly in 2:11.15. The West Haven, CT native was also a member of the victorious 400 medley relay team for the Blue Devils.
CCSU will next be competing in the Terrier Invitational at
Boston University on November 21-23.
