Freshman Taylor Friedmann and sophomore Madison Vestergaard earned Northeast Conference Swimmer and Diver of the Week accolades, respectively, for their performance at CCSU's home dual meet against Vermont on Sunday. It marks the first time that Friedmann has received the honor in her young career, but this is the fourth time that Vestergaard has been named Diver of the Week during the 2009-10 season.
Friedmann set a CCSU freshman and Jack Suydam Natatorium record in the 1,000 freestyle on Sunday afternoon. The freshman touched in at 10:13.41 to claim first place against Vermont. She broke the previous pool record of 10:13.99 set by Central's Kristen Jurzynksi in 2007. Friedmann's time is the best thus far in the Northeast Conference. She also placed second in the 500 free, recording a time of 5:07.28 and took fourth in the 200 fly in 2:13.45.
Vestergaard was the top diver for CCSU in Sunday's dual meet versus Vermont. The freshman won the three-meter event and placed fourth on the one-meter board. She recorded scores of 221.10 and 198.45, respectively, to average 209.78 points on the day.
Central will next head on the road for a dual meet with ACC opponent Miami on Saturday, January 16.
