Swimming and Diving Finishes Fourth at ECAC Championships
The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team finished fourth at the 2011 ECAC Championships. The Blue Devils posted a team score of 363 points, trailing New Hampshire, Harvard and Marist. New Hampshire took the ECAC team title with a total of 611 points.
Sophomore Lauren O'Kelly earned 13 team points with a sixth place finish in the 1,650 free event. O'Kelly posted a time of 17:22.97 in the finals, finishing nearly 10 seconds ahead of the seventh place finisher.
Junior Alex Czaplicki contributed more points to the Blue Devils with her sixth place finish in the 200 backstroke. She earned 13 points for the team with a time of 2:03.70 in the finals.
Freshman Helene Neuhaus earned nine team points in the 100 free. The freshman finished ninth with a time of 51.85. Sophomore Taylor Friedmann finished three spots behind her in 52.36, to take home five points.
Freshman Kristina Gulia's 2:26.14 performance in the 200 breaststroke earned her a 13th place finish and four team points.
The Blue Devil team of Friedmann, freshman Erin Massey, Czaplicki and Neuhaus wrapped up the meet with a fifth place finish in the 400 free relay. The team posted a time of 3:29.99 to earn 28 team points.
The ECAC Championships are the final event of another successful year for the Blue Devils. The team finished second in the Northeast Conference and fourth at the ECAC Championships. The Blue Devils set several school and conference records, and yesterday Friedmann set a new ECAC record for the 200 free.
