Blue Devil Swimming and Diving Earns Academic Award

Blue Devil Swimming and Diving Earns Academic Award

The College Swimming Coaches Association of America named the Central Connecticut swimming and diving team a Scholar All-America Team on Thursday July 21.  Also being recognized was sophomore Taylor Friedmann who earned an individual Scholar All-America Award.

The Blue Devils qualified for the award by finishing the 2010-11 academic year with a cumulative grade point average above 3.00 on a 4.0 scale.  Coach Bill Ball's squad finished this past year with a 3.09 grade point average.

Friedmann's individual honor is the result of her outstanding performance in the pool and the classroom.  To qualify for an individual honor swimmers must post a grade point average above 3.5 and meet the NCAA "B" Qualifying standard.  Friedmann reached that mark with her 4:50.57 performance in the 500 free at the 2011 Northeast Conference Championship.  In the classroom, she posted a 3.7 gpa.

Friedmann and the Blue Devils will return to the pool for the 2011-12 season in early October.
