Central Connecticut sophomore swimmer Helene Neuhaus qualified for the 2011 USA Winter Nationals with her performance in the 100 backstroke on Sunday. Neuhaus traveled to the University of Pittsburgh to compete in the Eastern Zone Super Sectional Meet over the weekend. Competing against elite competition, she finished second in her event and met her qualifying time.
Neuhaus posted a 1:05.43 to earn a second place finish in a competitive final heat. In the preliminary, she posted a 1:06.64 time, which earned her a slot in the finals.
As a freshman at Central, Neuhaus established herself as one of the most consistent swimmers for Coach Bill Ball's squad. At the Northeast Conference Championships, she finished second in the 100 backstroke and third in the 50 freestyle, while also contributing to relay teams.
The 2011 USA Winter Nationals will be held December 1-3, at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
