Sophomore Valentina Gomez was named the Northeast Conference Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday. The sophomore helped the Blue Devils put together a solid performance in a home weekend meet vs. New Hampshire. Gomez placed first in three individual events during the two day meet.
Gomez comes off a superb weekend in which she posted the top NEC times this season in three different individual events.
The sophomore from Harrisonburg, VA started the weekend with two individual wins on Friday in the 200 butterfly (2:50.20) and the 1,650 freestyle (17:35.79). Her time in the 200 butterfly was over five seconds better than any other NEC swimmer so far this season while her performance in the mile was almost a full minute faster than the previous conference-best time.
Following those two events, she swam the third leg in the 400 medley, helping the Blue Devil group take first. Finally on Saturday, Gomez finished off her successful weekend by touching the wall first in the 100 butterfly (57.73) for another NEC-best time this season.
The Blue Devils are back in action this weekend on the road at Wagner where they will competein a tri-meet, along with Bryant.
